“Campus Notes” is the blog of Donna Keuck Becker, MAT, PhD, an educational sociologist and the founder of Becker Academic, LLC. Posts come in three categories. These categories are college advice, outings and commentaries.
College Advice provides insights into perplexing topics such as the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and the best time to take standardized tests. Here you can find links to call or write with concerns about your child’s college search. We answer questions of a general nature to the best of our ability, free of charge, as a community service.
Outings is an omnibus category. It includes reflections on Donna’s forays into the world of cultural enrichment in American higher education, as well as her observations on various manifestations of youth culture, ranging from the 4-H to Otakon. Finally in this category, you will find descriptions for a few of the many campus tours and visits that Donna makes annually.
The third category, Commentaries, contains essays on current issues in higher education. The three-part post about the hijacking of the mission of higher education as the fundamental cause for skyrocketing college cost is a fine example. The commentaries are longer and more demanding reading than posts in the other categories.
When not offering workshops or providing services to client families, Donna enjoys spending time on college and university campuses in the Baltimore area. You can often spot her at student dance performances and in campus theaters showing Chinese, French, German and Japanese films.
